Charity Cricket Weekend
OVER Stowey Cricket Club in association with Tarmac Concrete recently held a charity cricket weekend, in aid of The Marion Evered Trust (Children's Cancer, Oak Ward, Musgrove) and the Cricket Club itself.
The events started on Saturday evening, with an open air disco, barbecue and bar. Following on from this, the Sunday was a family day, with a six-a-side cricket tournament.
Two trophies were up for grabs during the tournament, as well as playing for the out right winners of the competition, Over Stowey played Tarmac for The Ray Poole Memorial Trophy, in memory of Ray, who tragically lost his life in 1997.
With the players playing their cricket to a background of music, Twenty/20 style, coloured clothing and with the sun making a welcome appearance, a colourful day was had by all.
Over Stowey side, Might Mariners, won both trophies up for grabs that day, beating Tarmac Trojans for the Ray Poole Trophy and defeating Roberts Rockets in the final of the tournament.
The organizers would like to thank all those who contributed in their small way in helping make the weekend a success, and to those who gave their support in attending the weekend. With over £1,600 being raised, success is the only way the weekend can be summed up.
