AGM 2007

Over Stowey Cricket Club held their AGM at the Village Hall on Sunday 14th October. Chairman Ashley Easden welcomed everybody to the meeting and a full overview of the club was provided by committee members. One of the many positives to come out of this season has been the performance of the Youth Section who have exceeded all expectations by winning 2 league titles.

The development group advised members that it may be possible to obtain a grant to help cover the cost of a new artificial pitch that could be used to host youth and senior training nights as well as youth matches. More information to follow when it is known.

The club was advised that present main Sponsors, Richard and Sharon Wright had left the Ancient Mariner. However, the club was pleased to welcome new Landlord Wayne Norris to the meeting and it was stated that the Mariner would continue to be the main sponsor of the club,

A new playing shirt along with new polo shirts and tracksuit tops will be available to buy in the new year with the club currently working with Somerset County Sports, based at The County Ground, Taunton to provide clothing for senior and junior members.

Details of the 2008 tour was announced and it was hoped that the Club would be able to tour Sussex, with two different dates proposed. For more information on the tour, please phone Tour Manager, Ashley Easden or visit Tour 2008 for the latest news.

On the playing front, 1st XI captain Phil Rich announced that he would be standing down after many years of leading the team. Phil was thanked for his many years of service to the 1st XI and it is hoped that he would continue to make himself available to play as often as possible.

Mark Sortwell was elected the new 1st XI captain, with Steve Easden continuing in the role of Vice Captain. Over Stowey wish Mark the best of luck for the 2008 season.

The 2nd XI remains the same, with Paul Franklin and Simon Pickard continuing as Captain and Vice Captain respectively. They will be looking for the youth team members to continue to make a positive impression in senior cricket to have a successful season.
